Before Every Big Moment, Your Body Sends a Signal—Here’s How to Answer It

Before Paula and Mark stood under their chuppah, surrounded by loved ones in the heart of Toronto, I watched something powerful happen.

They weren’t just preparing for a beautiful Jewish wedding ceremony. They were stepping into something bigger: commitment, visibility, and emotional honesty. And as I stood with them—coaching them through their vows, their energy, their presence—I saw something I teach in every aspect of life, not just weddings.

Before every big moment—whether you’re saying “I do,” delivering a speech, walking into an interview, or standing up for yourself—your body either fuels you… or betrays you.

Your hands shake. Your breath shortens. Your mind shouts, “You’re not ready.”

But here’s the truth: you are.

You just need to flip the switch.

What Your Body Says… and How to Rewire It

I coach students, adults, and couples alike through emotionally meaningful transitions—whether it’s Online Bar Mitzvah Lessons, Adult Bat Mitzvah prep, or milestone coaching leading up to a Jewish Wedding in Toronto. And what I teach them is simple: confidence isn’t magic. It’s muscle memory.

We don’t rise to the occasion. We fall to the level of our training.

So here’s the training:

1. Stand tall.

Your posture is a message to your nervous system. Slouched shoulders say “I’m unsure.” A lifted chest and firm stance say, “I belong here.” Before the Jewish Wedding Hora began, I watched Paula straighten her spine and take Mark’s hand. It was subtle—but it said everything.

2. Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, out for 6.

This breathing pattern activates your parasympathetic nervous system. It tells your brain: “We’re okay.” Before your Jewish Wedding Officiant (that’s me!) says “Let’s begin,” take those breaths. I coached Mark through them before he recited his Jewish Wedding Vows, and the transformation was immediate.

3. Use a mantra.

“I’ve got this.” “I am ready.” “This is where I’m meant to be.” Pick one. Repeat it. Program it in. This isn’t fluff—it’s how Olympic athletes, Broadway performers, and even Bar Mitzvah students get their minds and bodies on the same team.

Why This Matters—In Marriage, in Life, and in Jewish Identity

Jewish wisdom doesn’t separate the physical from the spiritual. In fact, the most sacred moments of our tradition are embodied: standing for blessings, dancing at a Jewish Wedding Reception, wrapping tefillin, or circling under the chuppah.

Confidence shows up in your posture, your breath, your voice. It’s the same for a Bat Mitzvah Lesson, a Torah reading, or a baby naming ceremony Jewish tradition held to welcome a new soul into the world.

I officiated Paula and Mark’s wedding in a vibrant Toronto venue filled with music, family, and Jewish tradition. From the Jewish Wedding Dance to the reading of the Jewish Wedding Ketubah, every detail was infused with meaning. But what made it magical wasn’t perfection—it was presence. And presence comes from preparation.

I was mentored by a great Jewish wedding Rabbi, and I carry that wisdom into every ceremony. But I’m not a Rabbi—I’m a Jewish Wedding Cantor. And my role, both in life and in ceremony, is to help people access their calm, their clarity, and their voice in the moments that matter most.

What This Has to Do With You (Even If You’re Not Getting Married)

You may be planning a Traditional Jewish Wedding, or attending a Jewish Baby Naming Ceremony. You might be working through your Online Hebrew Reading Course, or preparing your child for their Bar Mitzvah training with CoolCantor Hebrew School.

Whatever your “big moment” is—your body will send signals. And your job is to answer them with practice, not panic.

That’s why in my coaching programs—whether it’s Online Bar/Bat Mitzvah Tutoring, Virtual Hebrew School Program, or Judaism Classes Online—I focus just as much on breathwork and mindset as I do on Torah Portion Lessons Online. Because leadership is more than knowledge. It’s nervous system regulation.

Paula and Mark’s Moment—and Yours

When Paula and Mark exchanged their rings and stood beneath the canopy, their ceremony reflected both ancient Jewish Wedding Customs and the modern emotional intelligence we all need.

They chose their Jewish Wedding Music carefully, selected heartfelt Jewish Wedding Invitations, and worked with a brilliant Jewish Wedding Photographer to capture each moment. But the part they’ll never forget? That quiet second before walking down the aisle—breathing together, standing tall, whispering, “We’ve got this.”

Their story doesn’t end with the wedding. We’ve stayed connected, and when they welcome their first child, they’ve already asked me to lead the Jewish Newborn Ceremony. From Jewish Baby Naming Services to coaching their child through a Bar mitzvah for adults later in life if they choose—it all begins with presence and preparation.

Action Steps

If you’re facing a big moment soon, here’s how to prepare:

• Practice breathing: Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6—twice daily.

• Write your mantra: Keep it short, strong, and repeatable.

• Stand tall daily: Start each day by adjusting your posture and claiming your space.

• Visualize the moment: Close your eyes and picture the scene going right, not wrong.

Confidence isn’t about being fearless.

It’s about having a plan.
